SATSYMPH ‘On a Theme of Hermes‘ is a virtual audioscape or ‘context-aware soundworld’ which is virtually mapped over a real-world location containing intricately programmed layers of contemporary music and contemporary poetry and prose. You access this ‘virtual auditorium’ or ‘swimming pool of sounds’ by downloading this app (containing all the content and instructions your phone needs). You then go to the actual location over which the virtual auditorium is layered (Hermes has a ‘portable’ iteration which is accessible anywhere in the world, as well as special versions fixed at Bristol UK (M Shed - Arnolfini Gallery - and Millenium Square), Poole UK (Hamworthy Park), and Wroclaw Poland (Odra Islands - and Hala Stulecia). Simply put your head/earphones on and go explore this intelligent, location-responsive environment. You don’t need a phone signal after downloading – just GPS. The portable version can be used anywhere. You want to listen in the Gobi Desert? No problem!
